Carin
Stats:
Intelligence: 11 (12 spent) - While Carin are by no means geniuses, they are still fairly clever.
Toughness: 8 - Not the toughest of all creatures, Carin can still handle the occasional scrape while digging and can face off against butterflies securely.
Strength: 5 - They are, well, pretty weak. They tend to try to avoid activities that require strength - if a boulder is in the way of a new tunnel, just burrow around it.
Language: 10 – They have a basic vocal language made up of various squeaks and humming. They can relay basic ideas (eg: "Good food this way" "Careful" "Stop".)
Agility: 20 (30 spent) - Where Carin really shine, they use this to escape from predators and to squeeze quickly through small tunnels.
Grasping Appendages: 5 - They have two very basic hands, each with two single-jointed fingers. They have fairly hard fingertips which help them burrow.
Physical abilities:
Burrowing: 15 - Carin have the ability to burrow through regular earth very quickly and efficiently. They build an interconnected underground tunnel systems between the hollows where they live, and use it for shelter and as an escape route.
Smooth Fur: 5 - Carin are covered with short, fairly slick neutral-colored hair. This helps them slip through tight tunnels and confers a small amount of camouflage.
Technology:
Grass Weaving: 5 - One day a particularly smart Carin spotted some long grass next to a spider web. (Are there spiders? Regardless, some kind of natural net. <.<) She picked the grass, and after some excruciating experimenting, developed a primitive net. This technology quickly spread throughout the tribe. They use the nets to entrap insects (usually harmless grubs and beetles) for later consumption, but have not yet considered using larger nets to catch fish.
Herbal Medicine: 5 - Through their exploratory nature and trial and error, Carin have discovered very basic anesthesia and plants which can help them recover from basic diseases.
Basic Description:
(More of this to come eventually.)
They look rather like rabbits without the big floppy ears and with a little mole/mouse thrown in.
They eat mostly plants, with insects and fish thrown in when they can find them. They have mostly blunt, flat teeth, with their two front teeth being slightly sharper for cutting plant material and cracking weak insect exoskeletons.
The Carin prefer to live near rivers, although it makes tunnels much less durable. The ground is softer due to the moisture (easier to dig through) and they can attempt to catch fish and water insects as well as eat river-based plants.
(This is my first time making up a species, so feel free to PM me/post any errors or weird balance issues you may find. Constructive criticism == good. :D )
