Part 2: Genocide
Chapter I: A Solemn Greeting
It was hard for the others to remove me from my mother, but they had to get me away from such a sight. It was easy to carry me down into the village, however. I was in a deep state of shock and I couldn't fight against it after I left her.
I don't remember a lot from this point n, but that's because I dssassociated myself with the real world. I'll try to tell what I was there for. I don't think I was missing much at the times that I was inactive though, so don't worry much about that.
I remember when we first arrived in the town, they let me rest on a bench fashioned from a log, a relic from what used to be a fire pit in the center of town.
I lied down on the log and stared into the scorched ground that once contained a fire, tears still runnig down my face.
Will he be okay?
I wasn't even sure if what I was hearing was real.
He's... Give him time.
Time? But... Acclue...
We know. There's no one else here... You don't think...?
No... that can't have...
Relax. We'll stay here with you two. He needs-
"Stop!" a voice broke through, waking me up. The sound of something exploding against the ground came behind me.
I sat up and looked. There was a large cloud of smoke around the others, it cleared quickly, and my three mildly confused friends stood in the middle.
On the other end of the cloud was a little Fox Demon girl with a spellbook, about my age... in fact, exactly my age... to the minute.
"Aww, damnit! Isn't that supposed to hurt them or something?! What the hell?!" she yelled, frantically rifling through the book's pages.
"Ami." I whispered out. Tears ran faster down my face. I stood up from my seat and started to walk toward her, past the others.
"Ami." I repeated from a distance.
She looked up from her book angrily, but before she said anything, her expression became surprised. The book fell casually from her hand. "A-Acclue?" she stuttered.
I walked toward her and stood only a few feet away. We looked into eachother's eyes, both very confused.
She finally snapped out of it and looked angry again. She reared her arm back and slammed her fist into my gut. I fell to the ground, winded.
"You idiot! You ran away in the middle of that fight and now you come back?! I thought you were dead!" Ami yelled, then turned away "You're such a freaking coward!"
Ami had always had a bad habit of channeling all of her emotions into anger... particularly at me.
I coughed a few times and breathed in gasps as my breath returned to me "I was kidnapped!" I tried to yell, but my voice was still caught up. I waited for another moment and shouted at her "I've been trying to get home for the last month just to see you again, you jerk!"
She stood still, facing away from me for a little bit. I think she was surprised that I was fighting back. She turned to face me "Where were you taken? The wastelands? It doesn't take a month to get here from most places on the island!"
"Are you even aware how big Thryll is? I had to go over the miasma line!"
"Well, that explains the humans... Fine! Y'know wha-?!"
I stopped her mid-sentence by grabbing her in a hug. "I missed you, Ami..."
After the first awkward moment, she freed herself and hit me hard in the head. "Idiot." she walked away into one of the many abandoned homes.
The others gathered over me quickly to see if I was okay. I sat up "<I am fine. She hits me a lot, really.>"
"<Who was that anyway?>" Hoshi asked, checking my head "<She looked a lot like you, is she your sister?>"
"<Yeah, older sister, by about ten seconds.>" I said.
"<You are twins?>" Ayaka asked "<She is nothing like you...>"
"<Multiple births are common to demons, but yes, we are identical twins.>" I said, standing back up. Ami looked almost exactly like me, except that she prefered her hair short, while mine was very long. Beyond that, our parents found it 'cute' for us to wear the same clothes and so we did, neither of us enjoyed that, but we dealt with it. "<She does not know Mantle, so do not bother trying to speak to her Ayaka and Clad. And do not worry about her magic, she is not very good at it, and she cannot hurt you.>"
"<Is she always that... violent?>" Ayaka asked.
I nodded. I wandered into the cave after Ami. The time to blame eachother was over.
She was just sitting in the back doing nothing. I had to wonder exactly what had kept her occupied for the past month.
"What do you want?" she growled.
"Ami..." I faced the floor. Ami didn't like it when I cried. "... I... I saw mom..."
She kept her gaze toward the cave wall "Oh."
"And what about dad?"
She took a moment to respond "I lost him in the battle..."
"... Oh..."
"He's not dead." she looked up along the wall "I lost him, but he can be found."
"Ami..." I approached her and put my arms around her "You're stronger than I am... I need you... Please help me through this."
I expected her to turn and hit me again. She just sat in place with me in silence.
It felt like hours before she spoke "Acclue... You've never admitted that I'm better before. You're the smart one though, you should..." she stopped mid-sentence. "Little brother, what happened to you...?"
I chuckled "I woke up."
