This is what I have done of a novel I just started, (literally 15 minutes ago.) tell me what you think.
Chapter 1
A small boy walks through a crowded bazaar, pushed back and forth in constantly as being bustle past him. Shuffling along, he glances up at the people bumping into him, only to see a mild flash of annoyance by his presence. He walks at a slow pace, while the path he is on seemingly lengthens. As he moves forward, his destination begins to loom in front of him. Excitement and fear fill his chest; he begins to run towards it. “It” had been his destination for years, ever since his father had gone, and his father's father before then. Closer, Closer, Closer. He gets so close that it's shadow engulfed his own. Reaching out before him, hand about to grasp, everything fades as screams echo around him...
...A man in his early thirties is sitting rigidly in his sweat soaked bed as he mindlessly clenches and releases his sheets. His thoughts spin rapidly, the words “why and what” etched mercilessly into his mind as he searches for what happened. Glancing out his window, he figures the time to be around 3 in the morning. He knows he won't sleep again tonight, but he still lies back in a false hope. He doesn't attempt to close his eyes though, “No,” he thinks to himself, “I'll just see that again...” Staring aimlessly at the ceiling, he feels a small disturbance at the foot of his bed, which continues to move up his legs and onto his stomach.
“Hello Sheev,” He says while reaching out a hand to stroke the critter. “I figured you'd have sensed that, it was a strong one tonight.”
Smiling at the slight hiss his pet emits in agreement, the man moves the creature carefully from himself as he stands. Walking through the darkness to a table, he lights a lamp, and looks around his room. 'All these trinkets, and they help not a damn bit,' he thinks to himself with a sigh, looking at the hastily purchased amulets. He maneuvers around oddly placed furniture, wading through piles of random junk he has laying around, to get to a small chest in the corner of his room. Opening it, he grabs a red silk shirt, black silk pants, and a loose cloth robe. Throwing it on quickly, he turns and opens the door to the hall waiting just outside.
Leaving, he quietly pulls the door shut as Sheev escapes through the crack before it is fully closed. He starts walking down the hall while his pet makes its way to perch on his shoulder. He thinks how strange the sight must be to anyone who didn't know him, 'A man of average height, with plain, black, shoulder length air, sporting a pygmy dragon.'
“Might as well have some breakfast now that we're up. Right Sheev,” he says as he turns the corner into the kitchens. A pleasant hiss is returned by the small dragon.
“Nightmare again Skix?” a huge behemoth of an Orc asks the man.
“Yeah, but why are you up Krash?” Skix asks his friend.
“Ya' know, 'early ta bed, early ta rise.'” Krash says with a chuckle.
“Bet you just couldn't hold your ale last night.” Skix says teasingly.
The Orc growls in mock anger before asking, “So what ya havin'?”
